2nd Edition “India and the Lusophone Market”

2nd edition of the conference “India and the Lusophone Market”, Goa, India, scheduled for February 26 and 27, 2015

The 2nd edition of the conference “India and the Lusophone Market”, Goa, India, is scheduled for February 26 and 27, 2015. It will be organized by Lusophone Society of Goa in collaboration with Portugal-India Friendship Association (AAPI) and Institute of Asian Studies (IdEA) of AESE-BusinessSchool.

The first edition of the international business congress “India and the Lusophone Market” was held in Goa in January 2014, attracting over a hundred delegates, from public and private sector representatives from across India and several high-growth Portuguese-speaking economies in Africa, Latin America and Europe.

An organization of the newly-established Lusophone Society of Goa, in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Institute of Asian Studies (IdEA), and the Portugal-India Friendship Association (AAPI), the two-day gathering included business presentations in a variety of sectors, ranging from the pharma industry, to infrastructure, manufacturing, banking, mining and other key trade and investment sectors. Among those present were Tata International, Aravind Eye Care, Narayana Hospitals, Naandi Foundation, Emergency Number 108, Power Engineering Ltd, Wockhardt (India), Banco Unico and Intelec Holdings (Mozambique), AdvantageBRIC (Brazil), Refriger, PETROTEC, EFACEC, Limits, CIEP- ACL, GMI (Real Estate and Golden Visa)  (Portugal),

The Honorable Chief Minister of Goa, Mr. Manohar Parrikar, inaugurated the congress and also participated in the closing Gala Dinner, underlining Goa’s friendly investment climate. The Ambassador of Portugal to India, H. E. Jorge Roza de Oliveira presented on Portugal’s economic recovery and opportunities for Indian investments, and also spoke at the closing session. Mozambique’s Salimo Amad Abdula, invited Indian companies to join the Business Confederation of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CE-CPLP), which he presides since 2012.

India’s trade volume with the eight Portuguese-speaking economies and China’s special administrative region of Macau now amounts to more than US$20 billion annually, almost 3% of India’s total trade. Brazil, Angola, Mozambique and Timor-Leste hold strategic oil, coal and gas reserves, making this an emerging relationship, with Goa as a key platform for business facilitation and dialogue.

Given the success of the first edition, the Lusophone Society of Goa decided to turn the congress into a regular event, with the next edition scheduled for February 26 and 27, 2015
