On June 10th the Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities is celebrated in Portugal. The national holiday also marks the day of the death of the poet Luís Vaz de Camões in 1580, author of Os Lusíadas.
In 2022 this day was also celebrated In Goa through the initiative of the Consulate General of Portugal in Goa located in Panjim, capital of Goa. On that occasion, the Consul General of Portugal, Dr. António José Chrystêllo Tavares, invited the Goan community to participate in the celebration of a Solemn Mass in the Patriarchal Palace at Altinho in Panjim on June 12 at 10:00 am, as part of the ceremonial of the Day of Portugal. The Mass was presided over by His Reverend Excellency the Patriarch of the East Indies and Archbishop of Goa and Daman D. Filipe Néri do Rosário Ferrão.
This was followed by a reception that took place on the same day at 6 pm at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Cavelossim, where high personalities were present, including Mr. Somesh Batra, Honorary Consul of Portugal in Mumbai and a commander of the Dabolim naval air base in Goa, the largest in India.
