The hypothesis of their origin is determined from the analyses of written and oral sources and is further reinforced by cultural similarities with the Chewa people, who still inhabit a vast area south and southwest of Lake Nyasa, Malawi and Zambia. The Makonde belonged in ancient times to the huge federation Marave, who had begun their migration to the northeast along the river valley Lugenda at times quite distant.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">March 13 (Monday) to 15 (Wednesday)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> Photography exhibition \u201cBaucau (East Timor): the land and the people&#8221;<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong>The exhibition will remain open on March 13 from 4 to 6 pm and on March 14 and 15, from 9.30 am to 6 pm<br \/>\nArt Gallery, Goa State Central Library, Patto, Panjim<\/p>\n<p>The current municipality (formerly &#8220;district&#8221;) of Baucau occupies a large area of the eastern part of East Timor. It is the second city in the country and had, during the Portuguese administration, the designation of &#8220;Vila Salazar&#8221;.<br \/>\nThe amateur &#8220;photographer&#8221; Ant\u00f3nio Almeida Serra relegated the artistic aspect of the photographs to the background, being fundamental criterion of the photograph&#8217;s selection the ability to illustrate both the land and the people as well as buildings which reflect the built heritage of Portuguese origin in this area.<br \/>\nAnt\u00f3nio Almeida Serra loves this region, knowing it relatively well. Yet S\u00e3o Paulo is also marked by profound rifts of class, of oppulent upper-class neighbourhoods surrounded by extensive, marginalised slum districts and a city centre that mixes a rich fabric of history with patches of utter decay.
