Participation in the Seminar is open to the public and free of charge.

The subject of the seminar is defined rather broadly and aims to discuss the relationship between India\/Goa and Brazil and to establish possible common projects between Indian\/Goan and Brazilian institutions\/associations.
\n<\/em>
\n<\/em>There will be two types of presentations, one for locals, which will be personal, and one for Brazilians, which will be done by screening of videos specially prepared by the authors for this seminar. <\/em><\/p>\n

\n9.35 <\/strong>\u2013 Welcome address by Mr Yatin Kakodkar, President of The International Centre Goa<\/p>\n

9.45 <\/strong>\u2013 Dr. Eduardo Faleiro: \u201cRelations India \u2013 Brazil. The relevance of Goa
\nEduardo Faleiro is an Indian politician and former Federal Minister. In September 2006, he was the Commissioner of Non-Resident Indians for the Government of Goa.<\/em><\/p>\n

10.00 <\/strong>\u2013 Video presentation. Prof. Cristovam Buarque: \u201cBrazil and India: Social Challenger\u201d.
\nCristovam Buarque is a Brazilian university professor. He is currently a senator for the Federal District. Buarque earned a PhD in Economics from the Pantheon-Sorbonne University, Paris.<\/em> Buarque is a member of Institute of Education of UNESCO. Former Brazilian Minister of Education.<\/em><\/p>\n

10.45 <\/strong>\u2013 Video presentation. Prof. Roberto Saturnino Braga, President of Centro Internacional Celso Furtado, Rio de Janeiro: \u201dIndia and Brazil: Powers of Peace\u201d
\nRoberto Saturnino Braga graduated in civil and economic engineering. He had a long political life, as a councillor, federal deputy and senator for three terms, and was the first mayor of Rio de Janeiro elected by direct popular vote. He presides over the International Celso Furtado Center for Development Policies and the Casa Grande Cultural Institute, both in Rio de Janeiro.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em>11.15 <\/strong>\u2013 Video presentation. Prof. Miguel \u00c1ngel Arellano, senior technician of the Brazilian Institute for Information in Science and Technology (Instituto Brasileiro de Informa\u00e7\u00e3o em Ci\u00eancia e Tecnologia \u2013 IBICT), a research unit under Brazil\u2019s Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation: “Digitization and preservation of historical documents of Goa: a joint project”
\nMiguel \u00c1ngel Arellano graduated in Social Anthropology from the National Institute of Anthropology and History INAH (1985), obtained a master’s degree in Information Sciences from the University of Brasilia (1998) and a PhD in Information Sciences from the University of Brasilia (2008). He has been working at the Brazilian Institute for Information in Science and Technology (IBICT) since 1997, and is coordinator of the Brazilian Network of Digital Preservation Services CARINIANA. <\/em><\/p>\n

11.45 <\/strong>\u2013 Video presentation. Prof Liedi Bernucci, Director of School of Engineering (Poli) of University of S\u00e3o Paulo (USP): \u201cThe use of tropical lateritic soils for road construction in Brazil: 50 years of experience\u201d
\nLiedi Bernucci has a master’s degree in Civil Engineering from University of S\u00e3o Paulo (USP). She obtained a PhD at Institut f\u00fcr Grundbau und Bodenmechanik of Eidgenoessische Technische Hochschule Z\u00fcrich, Switzerland. Expertise in Roads, Design and Construction.<\/em><\/p>\n

14.30 <\/strong>\u2013 Dr. Marilda Batista, Travel Consultancy India & Nepal: “Beyond fiction: some views on Brazilian tourism in India”
\nMs Batista has a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Paris-X and was Visiting Faculty at Jawaharlal Nehru University by the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs\/CAPES.<\/em><\/p>\n

15.00 <\/strong>\u2013 Vivek Menezes: \u201c21st century Goa-Brazil cultural connections: beyond the Lusosphere\u201d
\nVivek Menezes is a widely published writer and photographer, columnist for the Times of India, and frequent contributor to leading publications in India and internationally. He holds degrees from the Wesleyan University and the London School of Economics.<\/em><\/p>\n

15.30 <\/strong>\u2013 Mr. Philippe Drevet, Language Consultancy Service: \u201cContribution of translation for the improvement of intercultural relationship between India and Brazil\u201d
\nPhilippe Drevet is translator of the web site of the Ministry of External Affairs of India, translator of Noticias da India for the Indian Embassy in Brazil and teacher for the French language at Alliance Fran\u00e7aise in Brazil and India.<\/em><\/p>\n

16.15 <\/strong>\u2013 Mr. Stanley Coutinho: \u201cSustainability through co-operation: BRICS\u201d
\nMr.Stanley Coutinho has a B.Com. (Hons) and LL.B. from the University of Bombay, followed by an MBA in Personnel Management from Nagpur University. In 1979 he was selected through the IAS Examinations and was assigned to the Department of Defence Production from where he retired as a \u201cSenior Deputy Director-General\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n

\nVarun Sahni is Vice-Chancellor at Goa University and professor in International Politics at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi (currently on deputation leave). During 2008-12, he served as the tenth Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jammu.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>10.00 <\/strong>\u2013 Prof. Saba da Silva, Principal of G. R. Kare College of Law, Margao-Goa: “Brazil and Indian legal systems: an overview”
\nSaba da Silva has a M.Sc., B.Ed., LL.M., Ph.D. He is member of the Board of Studies in Law of Goa University. He has been recognized as Post-graduate Faculty of Goa University from the year 2004 and PhD guide at Research Centre of G.R. Kare College of Law. Editor of Kare Law Journal.<\/em><\/p>\n

10.30 \u2013<\/strong> Dr. Pushkar, Director of The International Centre Goa: \u201cThe importance of race in Brazil\u201d
\nDr. Pushkar is Director of The International Centre Goa (ICG). PhD in Political Science (McGill University). His PhD dissertation was on Chilean Christian Democracy and health sector reforms. Pushkar has taught at universities in India and Canada.<\/em><\/p>\n

\nFredric Litto is a emeritus professor of the University of S\u00e3o Paulo (USP) and founding member and president of Associa\u00e7\u00e3o Brasileira de Educa\u00e7\u00e3o a Dist\u00e2ncia \u2013 ABED (Brazilian Association of Distance Learning). He was professor at American universities during 10 years before he migrated to Brazil where he has been living for the last 45 years.<\/em><\/p>\n

11.30 <\/strong>\u2013 Dr. Rita Paes, Director of Nirmala Institute of Education Goa: “The first experience of Nirmala Institute of Education Goa in Brazil: a brief introduction\u201d
\nRita Paes M.A, M.Ed, M.Phil, Ph.D. (Topic of thesis: Role of different agencies in the empowerment of women). Principal: 18 years. Started new programmes at the Institute, Bachelor of Education in Special Education, Post Graduate Diploma in Guidance and Counselling, M.A. in Wellness Counselling<\/em><\/p>\n

12.00 <\/strong>\u2013 Dr. Denzil Martins, Ex-Principal of Nirmala Institute of Education Goa: “Possibilities of collaboration with Nirmala Institute of Education Goa in implementing a distance education programme”
\nDenzil Martins: B.Sc, M.Ed (Topic of dissertation: Using the electronic blackboard to teach selected units in mathematics to upper primary students) Ph.D. (Topic of thesis: Effectiveness of using cooperative learning structures in enhancing academic achievement in science among secondary school students). Was a Faculty member at Nirmala Institute of Education Panjim for 24 years.<\/em><\/p>\n
