Lusophony Games in Goa, November 2013

Delegates of Goa in Mafra, Portugal, at the General Assembly of ACOLOP on 6th July 2012

The 3rdedition of the Lusophony Games, a multinational multi-sport event, will be held in Goa, India from 2-10 November 2013. Sports Secretary of Goa Keshav Chandra made a presentation in Mafra, Portugal at the General Assembly of the Association of the Portuguese Speaking Olympic Committees, on the readiness of Goa to stage the event.

The 3rd edition of the Lusophony Games (Portuguese: 3.os Jogos da Lusofonia,  will be hosted in Goa, India from 2-10 November 2013. The Games in Goa will include nine disciplines, comprising  athletics(in Peddem), basketball (Curca), beach volleyball (Mira Mar), volleyball (University grounds), football (PJN stadium, Fatorda-Margao), judo (Peddem), table tennis (Taleigao), taekwondo (Fatorda-Margao) and  wushu (indoor stadium at Peddem).

Lusophony Games is a multinational multi-sport event organized by the ACOLOP (acronym for Associação dos Comités Olímpicos de Língua Oficial Portuguesa; English: Association of the Portuguese Speaking Olympic Committees), which involves athletes coming from Lusophone (Portuguese-speaking) countries, namely those belonging to the CPLP (Community of Portuguese Language Countries), but also others where there are significant Portuguese communities or that have a common past with Portugal.

In order to present and promove the Lusophony Games in Goa, a five-member delegation from Goa led by Sports Secretary Keshav Chandra participated in ACOLOP General Assembly  held in Mafra, Portugal on 6th July  2012. The other members of the Goan Delegation were SAG’s Executive Director Elvis Gomes, GOA Secretary Gurudatta Bhakta, PWD chief engineer Chimulkar and Jovita Lopes.

Keshav Chandra made a presentations to the Assembly on the readiness of Goa to stage the event in November 2013 in Goa. Following this presentation the Assembly adopted a vote of confidence in the Organization Committee of Goa.

In the General Assembly in Mafra participated delegates from  Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Goa (India),  Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Macau (Chinese SAR), Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, Sri Lanka  and East Timor.

    Aqui em Portugal passou completamente despercebida essa reunião relacionada com os preparativos dos Jogos de Lusofonia. Assim se vê a “grande” importância que Portugal dá a Goa.

    I hope very very much that in January 2013 something has started and something is completed regarding the infrastructure for the Games in November in Goa and we are not sleeping over infrastructure creation.

  4. The scheduled Lusophone Games to be in November 2013 in Goa represent a big chance to promote Goa in the Lusophone space.I hope very much that only True Goans will participate in the Games.

    Acho muito boa a ideia de incluir Damao (e Diu?) essa iniciativa. A gente de Damao e Diu acham abandonadas quanto as varias iniciativas lusofonas.
